Bernhard Schwartländer
Global Health Envoy, Germany; former WHO Assistant Director-General

Bernhard Schwartländer is Global Health Envoy of Germany, following a distinguished career in numerous international institutions including the World Bank, UNAIDS, and the World Health Organization where he was Assistant Director-General and Chef de Cabinet during the COVID-19 pandemic. A physician with a doctorate in epidemiology, Dr. Schwartländer was head of the national HIV/AIDS program during Germany’s reunification, and led the Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin. He also worked at the Global Fund, which invests more than $4 billion annually to defeat three diseases.
