C. H. Tung was a great friend of my father, President George H. W. Bush. Whenever they met, in China, Hong Kong, or the United States, they would compare notes and discuss the relationship between the United States and China, which they both believed was the most consequential bilateral relationship in the world. Their friendship and shared commitment to constructive engagement helped foster a more peaceful and positive relationship.
