Ruby Yang is an Academy Award-winning filmmaker and Director of the Journalism and Media Studies Centre at the University of Hong Kong. She joined the Centre in 2013 as the Hung Leung Hau Ling Distinguished Fellow in Humanities and became Director in 2024. Her documentary ‘The Blood of Yingzhou District’ won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject. She's also received multiple Academy Award and Emmy nominations, as well as numerous international awards, such as the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Journalism Award, FilmAid Asia’s Humanitarian Award, and the Global Health Council Media Award.
