The University of Chicago hosted its fifth annual U.S.-China Forum on February 6, 2020, during which artists, academics, and leaders from the United States and China gathered for a series of discussions and debates on artistic practice, language, and meaning in our global age.
This year’s Forum, convened by UChicago Arts and UChicago Global in collaboration with the Smart Museum of Art and the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF), explored how China and the United States intersect, interact, and overlap through the arts. The program featured critical conversations with contemporary Chinese and American artists, including Wang Lu, Xu Bing, and Mel Chin, as well as University of Chicago faculty and leadership, along with select live performances. Speakers explored how the arts play a role in the massive economic, social, cultural, political, and demographic changes taking place in China.
