High-level Dialogues

CUSEF creates open spaces for discussions between policymakers, officials and experts of the highest level from both the U.S. and China, building trust through ongoing dialogues and open interactions at the highest level on both sides.

U.S.-China High-level Meetings
CUSEF co-organized with the Center for American Progress a series of high-level conferences, bringing together former and current senior officials and experts from both countries for frank and open exchanges on a wide range of issues, including geopolitical cooperation, military-to-military collaboration, climate change, energy security, trade balance and the global financial crisis, etc.
Rule of Law Dialogues
CUSEF hosted rounds of China-U.S. Rule of Law Dialogue, bringing together U.S. and Chinese law experts and scholars in discussion and research on China’s legal system.
Pacific Community Initiative
The concept of the “Pacific Community” was proposed by Dr. Henry Kissinger in his book On China, in which he extoled China and United States to advance the enterprise of shared goals and purposes in order to build peace and prosperity in the region, which is also in line with President Xi’s idea of “Community of Common Destiny”. This is a multi-year initiative, the first phase of the “Pacific Community Initiative” last about three years and yielded a white paper to be submitted for endorsement by the Chinese and U.S. governments.
Security Dialogue
CUSEF supports high-level security dialogues between China and the United States, bringing together senior military officials, diplomats, and scholars to deepen mutual understanding of defense and security issues and establish interconnection mechanisms.
Sanya Initiative
CUSEF is an established partner of the Sanya Initiative, also known as the U.S.-China Military-to-Military Dialogue. The annual closed-door discussion gathers retired four-star generals and naval admirals. This is a critical framework in uncertain times for international security. The first meeting was held in Sanya of Hainan, China in 2008.
Political Party Leaders Dialogue
CUSEF facilitates opportunities for the U.S. and Chinese political leaders to have candid exchanges on bilateral issues and jointly explore solutions to tackle problems. The first of this annual meeting was held in 2010.
Chinese and American Economists Dialogue
Starting from 2010, CUSEF brings the U.S. and Chinese economists and scholars together every year to study the global and bilateral economic policy issues.
